Two siblings on the cusp of new beginnings.

Brother and sister Noah and Maeve are at a crossroads. Noah is off to university, flying the nest, ready to leave his childhood behind and embrace adulthood with open arms. Now distanced from her only sibling, Maeve must come to terms with the inevitability of growing up.

We watch the years pass and the distance between the siblings only seems to grow. How can two people who knew each other inside out become strangers? Do family ties actually have a meaning? Perhaps this feeling, like everything else, will not last forever.

An exploration of identity and the consequences of growing up, Twisted Roots seeks to unveil the challenges young people face entering adulthood, examining the impact on mental health. With the motif of nature, Finch’s play draws a close comparison between tree roots and family roots, asking how far we can truly grow from those we are tied to.

Twisted Roots was performed at Contact Theatre, Manchester, with a sold-out run as, part of the theatre’s BUDDING scheme.
